Cruciffission Series

Crucifixion

Series forming a Latin cross

All of the works making up the series form the structure of a Latin cross. This macrostructure is the symbol of suffering, even of the corporality of suffering, but also of rebirth after death. All the scenes that make up the series constantly refer to this symbol. It is in fact a multiplicity of figures of suffering, human and even bodily, sacred in the mystery of death. Repetition, which is at the basis of the very notion of the series, here wants to suggest the idea of the cycle, of the perpetual passage from life to death. Crucifissione represents four aspects of life alongside death, faces less and less human, because more and more possessed by absence. As many images as memory has been able to capture from the immense tragedy of the Holocaust. These are crystallized images, as if saved in the infinite movement of Time and History. Images fixed in the search for meaning. Each figure is the subject of a series of four different techniques: a drawing, a dichromatic gouache, a polychrome gouache, an oil on canvas. In each of the representations the man appears as if behind a screen; in the foreground, horizontal bands of color seem to evoke barbed wire. So many references to current events and history: the suffering that we watch from a distance, behind the filter of information or historical memory, while the scandal of the concentration camp tragedy repeats itself in history men.
